These matches, while not registered nor sanctioned by the NRA, follow the rules and courses of fire as written in the current edition of the NRA Smallbore Rifle Rules (see Additional References below)., BUT these are first and foremost low-key friendly matches shot primarily for fun and bragging rights to the top scorers. Shooters new to smallbore competition are welcome and will be coached or assisted as desired. Loaner equipment is available to assist new shooters - contact the Shoot Chair in advance to make arrangements.
Equipment
Any rifle chambered for .22 caliber rimfire .(22 Short, .22 Long or .22 Long Rifle) can be used. There are no restrictions on the barrel length or overall weight of the rifle and accessories. Any safe trigger is allowed. The same rifle must be used throughout all stages of any one match except in the case of a malfunction or disabled rifle when the competitor may change rifles with permission of the match director.
Any sights are allowed (metallic, telescopic, reflex or red dot).
Other equipment that may be used are a spotting scope, shooting mat, shooting glove, shooting coat, kneeling roll, and sling (except in standing stage). In the standing position a shooting kit, table, or stand may be used as a rifle rest between shots.
Eye and ear protection is required. An empty chamber indicator (EIC) is required. EICs are available for sale at the match.
Course of Fire
There are two separate matches, each with their own course of fire: a 50-yard, 4-position match and a 100-yard prone match. The 4-position match consists of prone, sitting, kneeling and standing stages with ten (10) rounds for score in each stage, five (5) rounds per bull. Targets are the NRA A 23/5. The prone match consists of firing forty (40) rounds for score on NRA A 25 targets, ten (10) rounds per bull. Unlimited sighter rounds are allowed in both matches. Competitors may elect to participate in either or both matches
Scoring
All the targets have 5-10 plus X scoring rings. Holes touching a higher ring are given the higher score. Hits outside the scoring rings, not fired, or on the wrong target are counted as misses. Scores are recorded for each stage and totaled for a final match score, with tie decisions determined by the highest number of X’s. A perfect score is 400-40X.
